It’s football rivalry week here in Utah! And for those of you outside of Utah that means BYU plays the University of Utah down in Provo (BYU’s stadium) on Saturday night. I’m not a huge football fan, but I did grown up in a family with all boys so I do know a thing or two about football and I DO love a good rivalry game.
Now, here’s where the fun begins…I attended BYU and my husband attended the U of U, so we are a house divided 😉 For some reason my boys love the U so I’m pretty much outnumbered, but oh well, that’s okay! This rivalry has always been a good one for as long as I can remember and it seems like lately the game winner has been decided in the last 5 minutes of the game, so they’re actually pretty fun to watch!
Usually this game is played in November, so I had to quickly throw something together! For all of you Utahns, I put together this simple party/dessert table for the game this weekend that features both teams. Here are just a few simple ideas to dress up your party.
I think it’s really fun to use foods in the colors of your favorite sport team; it’s simple and easy to do (as you can tell)! Choose candy in the colors of your favorite team and place the candy in clear jars with a simple ribbon to dress it up.
Here are some peppermint patty chocolate bites placed in little containers I bought at the dollar store. People could just take a little bucket with them to munch on.
I found the blue & white “Cougar Chips” at Harmons (they have red & white Utes chips as well).
I LOVE to use paper to add interest. Using scrapbook paper under your finger food or desserts makes the food stand out and looks great! These are just some simple store-bought football brownies, but putting the colored paper under them makes them more appealing! If you need to bring a snack to share at the party, you could do something similar with the football oreos. Just place some scrapbook paper on your white plate and place the oreos neatly layered on top.
Another way to use paper that I TOTALLY love is printables. There are just so many things you can do with paper printables that you print on your home computer, cut out and use instantly! Here I’ve used flag pennants to dress up my straws and some baker’s twine to wrap around my drinks.
I used more of the flag pennants on the front of my yogurt parfait cups to make them a little more “spirited”.
Cupcake wrappers are a fun way to show off those homemade cupcakes!
Make some cake push pops (the new little party trend) in your school’s colors. Just add food coloring to your white cake batter and you’re set. Kids AND adults love these!
These are just a few simple ideas for you to use at your party on Saturday or whenever your team is playing.
I found a couple of great websites for FREE BYU and Utah printables.
Ashley at Mommy by Day…Crafter by night created this cute BYU subway printable! You just need to print it out and put it in a white or blue frame to display at your party.
Some FREE U of U printables are available on the I Heart Salt Lake website. Here’s a picture of some ideas for what to do with these printables.
And here on Susan’s blog MyEyeQ is where I found the cupcake wrappers and flag pennants. There are a couple of other fun printables to use at your party (megaphone treat holders below) and the cool thing is that they’re available in BYU, Utah and Utah State for all you Aggie fans out there!
GO COUGARS!!
